Cityscape by VonSchlippe Cityscape by VonSchlippe
This is a painting I did as a christmas gift for my girlfriend, Inès!

Between 12 and 15 hours of painting, you may see the timelapse video here:

Some problems of perspective and level of detail, but blah!
Hope you all like it! She sure did! ^^

Perspective isn't much of a problem... There are some strong lines and points of interest in the picture that makes it ok (like the bridge in the middle of the picture and the main lines on the sides). The eye easily catches up where the buildings are higher or lower, which is a important effect of the picture. I would say that what is weaker in the picture is the difference between the amount of details of each roof, or wall, or balcony. But at the same time, these differences give so much life and vitality to the picture that I can hardly say that it could be better... In fact, because there are so many of those roofs and walls and balconies, we don't realise much that hey are not all detailed with the same attention. There is a good balance between the detailed parts of the picture and the plainer ones. Adding this to the lights and the bright clouds and sky, plus the incredible amount of things to look at (a lot of details!), you get a very lively picture, full of light and joy! No doubt your girlfriend loved it, I would definitely have!

Bravo!

I saw the speed up video on Vimeo and the piece on newgrounds. It's pretty incredible how you precisely did that cityscape.
Kudos

Wow, the level of detail in this is incredible! All the tiny details (the little plants, the patterns on the awnings, all the lights throughout the city, etc.) make it feel so realistic. The atmosphere feels really happy and lively, and the color scheme is beautiful. Definitely a place I would want to visit! Quite a nice present indeed for your girlfriend.:D
